Access Statement

Chelsea House was built in 1904 and due to the original layout and design of the property we are unable to offer easy access to guests with mobility issues.

We invite and encourage guests to contact us in advance of making their booking. Providing opportunity to discuss their requirements with us and we can make the best possible suggestions to ensure a comfortable stay at Chelsea House or determine if Chelsea House meets their individual needs. Accessing Chelsea House from the pavement: there are 5 steps from the pavement and a hand-rail on the left hand side, as shown on the image below.

Chelsea House, Falmouth

From the top of steps there are 7 paving stones surrounded with grey slate taking you to the next level where there are a further 4 steps with a hand-rail on the left.

There are a further 4 paving stones surrounded with grey slate taking you to the main entrance into Chelsea House. To access the main entrance there are 4 steps with hand-rails on both the left and right hand side, as shown next.

The entrance door is wide and lit by one main light in the porch. The light comes on automatically and is on a timer.  As you enter the main hallway the lighting works on sensor. To the left there are 2 rooms on the ground floor and these are the rooms that we would suggest guests with limited mobility book for their stay. There are no steps into the bedrooms from the hallway.

Room 1 – Prince, is a smaller king room with a modest sized en-suite and shower, there is a small step up into the shower. This room also has an outside terrace. To access the terrace there is one step down.

Room 2 – Nina Simone is a large king room with large en-suite with shower, there is a small step up into the shower.

Both rooms have garden and sea views and are our only dog friendly rooms.

Opposite the two bedrooms is the Breakfast Room, which seats 18 guests. There are no steps into the Breakfast Room from the hallway.

Below the image shows entrance hallway, lighting and access into Breakfast Room and stairs to first floor. Lighting of stairs and hallways are all activated by motion sensor lighting.

Hall lighting provides another nod to the sea, fish and mermaids

 

To access the first floor there are 2 steps then a landing, followed by a flight of 12 steps then a landing, followed by a flight of 6 steps then the first floor landing.

Bedrooms 3, 4, 5 and 6 are accessed from the first floor landing.  The floor is carpeted and there are no steps into the bedrooms from the landing. Each room has its own en-suite and there is one small step up into each shower.

Bedrooms 7, 8 and 9 are accessed from the 2nd floor landing. To access the 2nd floor there are two flights of stairs, the first flight has 13 steps then a landing, and second flight has 6 steps then landing.  The floor is carpeted and there are no steps into the bedrooms from the landings.  Each room has its own en-suite and there is one small step up into each shower.

Rooms 1, 4, 7 & 8 all have either a terrace or balcony which have one step for access, see first image.

Chelsea House does not permit smoking or vaping including on the balconies, terrace or Garden Room.

Please note all bedrooms have en-suite facilities and there are no additional public toilets.

Our guest lounge is our Garden room or Garden Retreat.  This is located separately from Chelsea House and opposite the main entrance. To access there is one step.

In fine weather breakfast is offered on the decking area surrounding the Garden Room. To access the tables towards the back there is one step up and two steps up when accessing tables to the front of the Garden room. See image below.
