Access Statement

Chelsea House was built in 1904, and due to the original layout and design of the property, we are unable to offer easy access to guests with mobility issues.

We invite and encourage guests to contact us in advance of making their booking. Providing opportunity to discuss their requirements with us, and we can help make the best possible suggestions to ensure a comfortable stay at Chelsea House Holiday Apartments or determine if individual needs cannot be met. Accessing Chelsea House from the pavement: there are 5 steps from the pavement and a handrail on the left-hand side, as shown in the image below.

From the top of the steps, there are 7 paving stones surrounded by grey slate taking you to the next level, where there are a further 4 steps with a handrail on the left.

There are a further 4 paving stones surrounded with grey slate taking you to the main entrance into Chelsea House. To access the apartments, there are 4 steps with handrails on both the left and right-hand sides as shown next. At this level, you access Apartment 1, Jimi Hendrix – a one-bedroom apartment with a walk-in shower is accessible from the main entrance.

The entrance is wide and lit by one main porch light. The light comes on automatically and is on a timer. As you enter the main hallway, the lighting is sensor-activated. To the left on the ground floor is Apartment 2, Prince – a one-bedroom apartment with a walk-in shower and direct access to an outside terrace with a step down from the living/dining area and bedroom.

Apartments 1 and 2 are the apartments we would recommend to guests with limited mobility. From the entrance and hallway, there are no more steps to the bedroom or bathrooms.

To access the first floor, there are 2 steps, then a landing, followed by a flight of 12 steps, then a landing, followed by a flight of 6 steps, then the first-floor landing. Apartment 3, Elton John & Friends apartment, is located on this floor. To access the shower, there is one small step in both ensuites.

To access the second floor, there is one flight of 13 stairs, then the landing.  To access Apartment 4, David Bowie & Friends, there is a flight of stairs with 9 steps; this leads you into the apartment.  To access the shower, there is one small step in both ensuites.
